Iteso Welfare Association UK successfully held a memorial service at St. Paul’s, Newington, Lorrimore Square, London SE17 3QU on Saturday 10 October 2015.

The Superior General of Mill Hill Missionaries and former Parish Priest Soroti Catholic Cathedral, Fr. Michael Corcoran conducted prayers in both English and Ateso. The service was led by the host vicar, Rev. Kathy Hacker Hughes.

Members of IWA had formed a choir, blending Ateso hymns with English hymns.

Ties in the UK had submitted names of their departed loved ones for the remembrance.

After the service, participants were treated to authentic traditional music and cuisine at a reception at the same venue. The day was crowned with a dance in commemoration of 24 years of IWA UK and Uganda’s 53rd Independence Anniversary.

The Iteso Community in the UK had gone through a period of nearly a decade of difficulty. IWA UK Board organised this, among other activities, to help create a platform for reconciliation.
