Teso Health Appeal
Teso Health Appeal is fundraising by Iteso Welfare Association (IWA) for mobile community health outreach clinics and building a state-of-the-art specialist referral hospital in Teso sub-region, Eastern Uganda.
Preventive health services are inadequate in Teso region. Evidence shows that 75% of the disease burden in Uganda is due to preventable causes. A mobile health community outreach programme increases access to preventive community health services.
A specialist referral hospital in Teso is necessary because access to advanced health care services is currently inadequate; specialist health services are available in Kampala, 300 km away.
IWA specialist referral Hospital will be a centre of excellence in the provision of advanced health services to more than 2 million people in Teso region.
The hospital will enable us to train more health professionals in partnership with Soroti University and other medical schools in the region; and innovate new ways to improve health through cutting-edge health research.
This appeal is part of a 5-year strategic plan that seeks to improve the socio-economic status of the people of Teso sub-region by mobilising, uniting, inspiring, and empowering them to be self-reliant.
